Synopsis
A leading PSU banking stock remained in focus after reporting ₹5,528 crore adjusted Q1 profit, while a ₹5,680 crore one time provision led multiple brokerages to cut target prices. Despite the revisions, nearly 75% of analysts continue to recommend a Buy.

A major public sector banking stock remained in focus after reporting a mixed set of Q1 FY27 results that prompted several global brokerages to reduce their target prices. Although a large one time provision impacted reported earnings, analysts largely remained constructive on the lender's long term outlook, citing healthy loan growth, stable asset quality and attractive valuations. Investor attention has now shifted towards whether the bank can sustain its operating performance while recovering from the exceptional charge recorded during the quarter.
The lender reported an exceptional provision of ₹5,680 crore related to the settlement of the NMC Group litigation, which significantly reduced reported profit. Excluding this one off item, the bank posted an adjusted net profit of ₹5,528 crore, highlighting that its underlying banking business continued to perform steadily despite pressure on net interest margins and fee income.
Even after multiple target price reductions, nearly 75% of analysts tracked by Bloomberg continue to recommend a Buy on the stock, suggesting that most brokerages still see meaningful upside over the medium term based on improving business fundamentals and attractive valuations.
Shares of Bank of Baroda are likely to remain under investor focus after several domestic and international brokerages revised their earnings estimates and target prices following the June quarter results. Although the stock has declined around 18% so far in 2026, analysts believe much of the near term weakness has already been reflected in the valuation.
The results also come during an active earnings season for the banking sector, with investors closely comparing performance across lenders including Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, Bandhan Bank and IndusInd Bank as investors evaluate which banks are best positioned for FY27.

The bank delivered a mixed financial performance during the June quarter. While its underlying lending business remained healthy, reported earnings were significantly impacted by a ₹5,680 crore one time provision relating to the NMC Group settlement.
Excluding this exceptional item, the lender reported an adjusted net profit of ₹5,528 crore, reflecting resilient operating performance supported by healthy business growth, stable credit quality and treasury gains. However, pressure on fee income and softer margins continued to remain areas of concern for several brokerages.

| Exceptional Provision | ₹5,680 Cr |
| Net Interest Margin | 2.77% |

Despite lowering their earnings estimates and target prices, most brokerages retained a positive stance on the stock.
Citi maintained its Buy rating while reducing its target price to ₹310 from ₹340, stating that the exceptional provision distorted headline earnings. The brokerage noted that excluding the one off charge, the bank generated a core Return on Assets (RoA) of 1.10%, supported by low credit costs, treasury gains, tax refund interest and recovery write backs.
Macquarie also retained its Buy rating and lowered its target to ₹310, highlighting healthy loan growth, stable operating performance and attractive valuations despite margin pressure. JPMorgan maintained its Overweight rating with a revised target price of ₹315, while HSBC retained a Hold recommendation and target price of ₹276, citing medium term pressure on returns.

|---|---|---|
| Citi | Buy | ₹310 |
| Macquarie | Buy | ₹310 |
| JPMorgan | Overweight | ₹315 |
| HSBC | Hold | ₹276 |
Although the bank continued to deliver healthy business growth, Net Interest Margin (NIM) declined to 2.77% from 2.89% in both the previous quarter and the corresponding quarter last year. Brokerages believe margin pressure and weaker fee income may continue to weigh on earnings over the near term.
At the same time, analysts remain optimistic that healthy loan growth, stable asset quality and controlled credit costs could help offset some of the pressure on profitability over the coming quarters.
Investors will closely monitor whether the bank can maintain healthy loan growth while improving margins and fee income after the one time provision. The performance of the retail and corporate loan portfolio, asset quality trends and future Return on Assets will remain key indicators for the stock.
The broader banking sector continues to attract investor attention, with recent quarterly results from ICICI Bank, Canara Bank, Bandhan Bank and IndusInd Bank providing investors with important insights into the health of India's banking industry.
Although Bank of Baroda's reported earnings were impacted by a ₹5,680 crore exceptional provision, analysts largely focused on the strength of its underlying banking business. Adjusted profitability, healthy loan growth and stable asset quality helped most brokerages retain positive recommendations despite lowering their target prices.
With 30 out of 40 analysts continuing to recommend a Buy, the stock remains one of the closely watched PSU banking names. Investors will now focus on margin recovery, earnings growth and execution over the remaining quarters of FY27.
Bank of Baroda remained in focus after multiple global brokerages revised their target prices following the June quarter earnings. Although the bank reported a significant one time provision, most analysts maintained positive ratings, citing healthy loan growth, stable asset quality and attractive long term valuations.
Brokerages lowered their target prices mainly because of the ₹5,680 crore one time provision related to the NMC Group settlement and continued pressure on net interest margins (NIM) and fee income. However, they believe the bank's core operating performance remains healthy.
After excluding the exceptional provision, Bank of Baroda reported an adjusted net profit of ₹5,528 crore, reflecting stable underlying business performance despite the impact of the one off litigation related charge.
Citi, Macquarie and JPMorgan retained positive ratings on the stock despite lowering their target prices. HSBC maintained a Hold rating, while nearly 75% of analysts tracked by Bloomberg continue to recommend a Buy.
Investors should closely watch the bank's loan growth, net interest margins, fee income, asset quality, credit costs and future earnings performance. Recovery in margins and sustained business growth will be key factors influencing the stock over the coming quarters.
