NVIDIA launches DLSS 5 with NBA 2K27, bringing AI powered photorealism to RTX 50 series

NVIDIA has launched DLSS 5, its latest AI graphics technology. NBA 2K27 is the first game to support it. The technology uses AI to improve lighting, materials and other visual details in real time.

NVIDIA says DLSS 5 aims to make game graphics look closer to cinematic quality while working with existing DLSS features.

NVIDIA DLSS 5 launches with NBA 2K27

DLSS 5 is available in NBA 2K27 from September 3. It works on GeForce RTX 50 series desktop and laptop GPUs and GeForce NOW.

The new system, called DLSS Neural Rendering, works with DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction.

What is 3D Guided Neural Rendering?

3D Guided Neural Rendering is the main technology behind DLSS 5. It uses AI to add visual details to game scenes.

It can improve lighting, reflections, materials and character details, helping games look more realistic without relying only on traditional rendering.

DLSS 5 is exclusive to RTX 50 series

NVIDIA has made DLSS 5 exclusive to GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs and laptops, along with GeForce NOW.

NVIDIA also says the technology has become more efficient during development, moving from two RTX 5090 GPUs to a single GPU with a reported five times performance gain over six months.

More games will get NVIDIA DLSS support

NBA 2K27 is the first DLSS 5 game, but NVIDIA has also confirmed DLSS support for STAR WARS Zero Company, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and The Blood of Dawnwalker.

More game support could help RTX 50 series users get greater use from the new technology.
