Synopsis
MRPL shares rallied over 4.5% after reporting ₹914.82 crore Q1 FY27 profit and 120% revenue growth. Here's what is driving the stock today.
Shares of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) climbed more than 4.5% during Thursday's trading session after the company reported a sharp turnaround in its June quarter earnings. The stock was trading around ₹170.74, with strong buying interest emerging after revenue more than doubled from a year earlier and profitability recovered significantly. The rally also coincided with gains across refinery and energy stocks as investors responded positively to improving refining margins and a stronger earnings season.
Sentiment across the oil and gas sector also received support from recent developments in the global energy market. Although international crude prices have remained volatile over recent weeks, refining companies have benefited from improving margins and stable domestic fuel demand. Earlier, WeloMoney reported how Brent crude fell below $92 while crude-sensitive stocks rallied, creating favourable conditions for several downstream oil companies.
The broader Indian stock market also traded firmly during the session, with buying interest returning to public sector enterprises, energy stocks and cyclical sectors. Against this backdrop, MRPL emerged as one of the strongest performers in the refinery space after delivering better-than-expected financial numbers for the June quarter.

The primary trigger behind Thursday's rally was the company's June quarter earnings, which reflected a significant improvement across revenue, operating profit and net profit.
MRPL reported standalone net sales of ₹38,254.19 crore, an increase of 120.41% compared with ₹17,356.23 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The sharp jump in revenue was accompanied by a substantial recovery in profitability, with quarterly net profit rising to ₹914.82 crore from ₹271.97 crore a year earlier.
Operational performance also strengthened during the quarter. EBITDA climbed to ₹1,388.50 crore, representing an increase of 538.04% year-on-year, while earnings per share improved to ₹5.22 from ₹1.55 in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The strong earnings performance prompted investors to accumulate the stock after several months of relatively subdued trading.
| Particulars | Q1 FY27 | Q1 FY26 | YoY Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net Sales | ₹38,254.19 Cr | ₹17,356.23 Cr | 120.41% |
| EBITDA | ₹1,388.50 Cr | ₹217.62 Cr | 538.04% |
| Profit Before Tax | ₹1,214.81 Cr | -₹402.90 Cr | Turnaround |
| Net Profit | ₹914.82 Cr | ₹271.97 Cr | 436.37% |
| EPS | ₹5.22 | ₹1.55 | 236.8% |
The financial performance indicates that MRPL benefited from improved refining economics during the quarter. Revenue growth remained the biggest contributor, while higher operating profitability translated into a significant increase in bottom-line earnings.
The June quarter marked one of MRPL's strongest revenue performances in recent years. Net sales crossed ₹38,000 crore, driven by stronger refinery throughput, favourable product realisations and improved operational efficiency.
Higher EBITDA also indicated better cost management despite fluctuations in crude oil prices. Investors typically monitor refining margins closely because even modest changes in crack spreads can have a meaningful impact on quarterly profitability.
Earlier this week, WeloMoney also covered how the Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar as crude oil prices eased, a development that can influence import costs for crude oil and affect refining companies over time.
| Particular | Mar 2026 | Jun 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ₹23,949.69 Cr | ₹38,254.19 Cr |
| PBT | ₹1,235.50 Cr | ₹1,214.81 Cr |
| Net Profit | ₹119.36 Cr | ₹914.82 Cr |
| EPS | ₹0.68 | ₹5.22 |
While profit before tax remained broadly stable compared with the March quarter, net profit increased sharply due to improved operating performance and favourable tax adjustments. Investors viewed the quarter as confirmation that refining profitability has strengthened after a challenging period.
MRPL shares closed at ₹160.03 on July 28 before extending gains during Thursday's session to trade around ₹170.74, representing an intraday rise of more than 4.5%.
The stock has generated approximately 18.58% returns over the past one year despite remaining under pressure during parts of the previous six months. Thursday's rally reflects renewed investor confidence following the latest earnings announcement.
The refinery sector has benefited from several developments over recent weeks.
Improving refining margins, relatively stable domestic fuel demand and supportive global energy trends have encouraged investors to revisit oil marketing and refinery companies. The movement in international crude prices remains an important factor, although refinery profitability depends on multiple variables including inventory valuation, refinery utilisation, product demand and crack spreads.
The broader Indian stock market has also remained supportive, with benchmark indices trading near record levels and institutional investors continuing to favour companies reporting strong quarterly earnings.
| Metric | Value |

| Current Share Price | ₹170.74 |

| Net Sales | ₹38,254.19 Cr |
| Net Profit | ₹914.82 Cr |
| EBITDA | ₹1,388.50 Cr |

The latest earnings demonstrate a significant recovery in operating performance compared with the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue growth, profitability and EBITDA expansion collectively contributed to Thursday's sharp rally in the stock.
