Synopsis
Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta and NMDC shares gain as silver prices rally, with gold and copper also moving higher in global markets.

Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta and NMDC shares gained in opening trade on Tuesday, September 8, as silver prices extended their rally in global markets. Hindustan Zinc rose 1.59% to ₹598.50, while Vedanta gained 1.21% to ₹271.25. NMDC was also trading higher, up 0.66% at ₹84.40.
The gains came as silver prices rose 1.02% to ₹2,447 per kg. In international markets, spot silver climbed around 1% to $66.88 an ounce, supporting buying interest in silver linked stocks.
Geojit said silver could extend its gains as long as prices remain above $60 an ounce, although it expects volatility during the day. The brokerage sees ₹2,53,000 as resistance for silver futures, which needs to be crossed for another rally.
For Hindustan Zinc, the movement in silver prices remains important because the company has exposure to silver production along with zinc and lead. Vedanta and NMDC also remained in focus as broader metal prices moved higher.
| Stock | Opening trade gain | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Hindustan Zinc | 1.59% | ₹598.50 |
| Vedanta | 1.21% | ₹271.25 |
| NMDC | 0.66% | ₹84.40 |
Gold also moved higher, with spot prices gaining 0.7% to $4,434.02 an ounce. The rise came as the dollar weakened against the yen, making gold priced in the US currency more competitive for buyers.
Copper extended its gains and touched a record high of $14,617 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange for a second straight session. Tight near term supplies and expectations of US tariffs on refined copper imports supported the move.
Copper has gained around 17% so far this year. Demand expectations from data centres, renewable energy equipment and power grids have also supported prices, while mine supply remains constrained.
Investors in Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta and NMDC will now track movements in silver and other industrial metals as global commodity prices remain firm.
