Synopsis
IndiGo added 330 pilots and 991 cabin crew in FY26, taking its total workforce to 41,907 employees as the airline expanded operations and strengthened its network across domestic and international markets.

India's largest airline, IndiGo, strengthened its workforce during FY26 by adding 330 pilots, taking its total pilot strength to 5,786, according to the company's latest annual report. The airline also recruited 991 cabin crew members, increasing its cabin crew strength to 11,203, while its overall employee count rose to 41,907.
The hiring comes as IndiGo continues expanding both its domestic and international operations. During FY26, the airline added 14 new destinations, operated more than 2,150 daily flights and expanded its network to over 140 destinations, making it one of the fastest growing airlines in the region.
The latest workforce expansion also follows operational challenges faced late last year after revised pilot duty time regulations led to temporary flight disruptions. Strengthening pilot availability is expected to improve operational resilience while supporting the airline's ambitious fleet and network expansion plans.

IndiGo continued to expand its network throughout FY26 by increasing flight frequencies and adding new destinations across domestic and international markets. The airline now operates more than 2,150 flights every day, strengthening connectivity for business and leisure travellers while maintaining its leadership position in India's aviation sector.
Pilot availability became a major focus for IndiGo after widespread flight disruptions in December 2025, when revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules came into effect. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directed the airline to temporarily reduce around 10% of its scheduled flights until it fully implemented the revised pilot duty norms.
The experience highlighted the importance of maintaining adequate pilot strength as airlines expand operations. By increasing pilot recruitment during FY26, IndiGo is better positioned to comply with regulatory requirements while ensuring smoother operations during periods of high passenger demand.

The growth in cockpit and cabin crew reflects IndiGo's long term expansion strategy. As the airline inducts additional aircraft and launches new routes, maintaining adequate staffing levels will remain essential for operational reliability, regulatory compliance and customer service standards.
India is one of the world's fastest growing aviation markets, with passenger traffic continuing to rise every year. Airlines require additional pilots not only to operate new aircraft but also to comply with stricter flight duty regulations that limit the number of flying hours for safety reasons.
IndiGo has one of the largest aircraft order books globally, and every new aircraft entering its fleet requires trained pilots, cabin crew, engineers and ground staff. Expanding the pilot workforce therefore plays a critical role in supporting the airline's future growth plans while reducing the risk of operational disruptions caused by crew shortages.
According to reports, IndiGo is planning to recruit around 1,000 more pilots as it continues expanding its fleet and route network. The airline is also investing in long term infrastructure, including a new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru, which will strengthen its engineering capabilities and support future fleet growth.
In his message to shareholders, Managing Director Rahul Bhatia said the airline remains focused on operational excellence, customer experience, financial resilience and sustainability while continuing to strengthen India's aviation infrastructure ecosystem.
Consistent hiring across pilots and cabin crew indicates that IndiGo remains confident about long term passenger demand and future capacity expansion. A growing workforce generally supports higher aircraft utilisation, better on time performance and improved operational efficiency, all of which are important drivers of revenue growth for airlines.
Investors will also watch whether the airline continues adding aircraft at the planned pace and successfully recruits the additional pilots required to support its expanding operations over the coming years.
