Synopsis
Nifty outlook for August 14: Nifty holds 24,300 support as global tensions, crude prices and key economic data set the tone for the next trading session.

The Nifty50 extended its losing streak to three sessions on August 13, falling 40 points, or 0.16%, to close at 24,395. The index opened flat, dropped more than 100 points during the first half of the session and then recovered more than 90 points before giving up part of those gains again. A recovery of over 40 points during the Closing Auction Session helped the index finish close to the 24,400 mark. The market remains in consolidation, with Nifty holding above the 24,300 support area while traders track global developments, crude prices and the final set of Q1FY27 earnings.
The broader market remained relatively stable, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 0.15% and 0.27%, respectively. Realty, FMCG and Consumer Durables were among the stronger sectors, while Metal, Financial Services and Oil & Gas remained under pressure. For August 14, analysts expect the index to remain rangebound with a marginal negative bias. West Asia tensions and elevated crude prices remain concerns, while India's WPI inflation, EU GDP and US retail sales are among the data points due on Friday.

The immediate technical setup remains mixed. Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities said the Nifty continues to hold above 24,300, although the index has not been able to sustain upward moves. He sees the broader trend as choppy with a weak bias and identifies 24,200-24,300 as an important support area, with 24,500 as immediate resistance. Osho Krishan of Angel One sees 24,265 as an important swing-low support, while a break below this level could take the index towards the 50-day and 100-day exponential moving averages around 24,200-24,150.
| Technical level | Level |
|---|---|
| Nifty close | 24,395 |
| Immediate support | 24,300 |
| Swing-low support | 24,265 |
| Lower support | 24,200-24,150 |
| Immediate resistance | 24,450-24,500 |
| Higher resistance | 24,600 |
| Further resistance | 24,630-24,750 |
Vinay Rajani of HDFC Securities noted that Nifty closed above both its 20 day DEMA at 24,363 and 200-day DEMA at 24,385 for the second consecutive session. He sees this as a positive technical signal, although the index remains within a choppy trading range. According to Rajani, 24,265 is immediate support followed by the psychological 24,000 level, while 24,630 and 24,750 are resistance zones. LKP Securities' Rupak De also sees 24,450 as immediate resistance and 24,300 as support, with a decisive move beyond either level needed to establish a clearer direction.
The session remained mixed across sectors. Realty, FMCG and Consumer Durables performed among the stronger sectors, while Metal, Financial Services and Oil & Gas faced selling pressure. Tata Consumer Products, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Eternal were the top Nifty50 gainers, while Hindalco Industries, UltraTech Cement and Grasim Industries were among the biggest laggards. Despite weakness in the benchmark, the broader market showed resilience as both Midcap and Smallcap indices ended higher.
The market's near-term direction could be influenced by geopolitical tensions in West Asia and elevated crude prices. With the Q1FY27 earnings season nearing its end, investors are expected to turn more attention towards macroeconomic indicators and global developments. Motilal Oswal's Siddhartha Khemka said this shift in focus is likely as the earnings season winds down.
Several domestic and global economic indicators are scheduled for release on August 14. India's WPI inflation, EU GDP and US retail sales will be among the data points watched by investors. On the earnings side, Ashok Leyland, NMDC and Alkem Laboratories are scheduled to announce their results. These numbers could influence sector-specific sentiment and contribute to movements in the broader market.
The Nifty enters August 14 with 24,300 as an important support level and 24,450-24,500 as the first resistance zone. A sustained move above resistance could support a recovery towards 24,600 and higher levels, while a decisive break below 24,265 could increase selling pressure towards 24,200-24,150 and potentially 24,000. Until the index breaks out of this range, the supplied analyst views point towards continued choppy trading, with crude prices, global developments, macro data and the final Q1FY27 earnings announcements likely to influence sentiment.

24,300 is the immediate support level highlighted by analysts. The 24,265 zone is another important support area.

The immediate resistance is around 24,450-24,500. A sustained move above this zone could support a recovery towards 24,600 and higher levels.
