India's banking system deposits rose by ₹11 trillion, or about $115.25 billion, over three fortnights through July 31, reaching a record level, according to Reserve Bank of India data.
The sharp rise came mainly from dollar inflows linked to the RBI's foreign currency non resident deposit scheme. Banks have seen stronger foreign currency inflows after the central bank introduced measures to attract overseas deposits.
Deposits had earlier fallen by ₹3.87 trillion between April 1 and June 15, making the recent increase a notable shift in the banking system.
Total deposits in India's banking system stood at a record ₹269.4 trillion as of July 31. Deposits have risen by ₹7.1 trillion during the first four months of the financial year that started in April.

The recent deposit growth has been linked mainly to foreign currency inflows and their conversion into rupees.
The RBI announced discounted swap windows in June to attract foreign currency non resident deposits. It also encouraged banks and state owned companies to raise dollar funding at lower costs.
The schemes had attracted almost $41 billion by the end of July, according to RBI data.
A trader at a state run bank said the conversion of dollars into rupees had gained pace and was the main reason behind the recent rise in deposits.
Higher deposits give banks a larger pool of funds that can support lending. The increase could also help improve the balance between bank credit and deposits after deposit growth had lagged earlier in the financial year.
ICICI Securities Primary Dealership expects credit conditions to remain strong as the credit deposit ratio improves through stronger deposit growth driven by FCNR flows.
The pace of foreign currency inflows, further RBI measures and the conversion of dollar deposits into rupees will be important factors to watch.
Banks will also be watched for changes in deposit growth and lending as the financial year progresses.
