Iran’s Strait of Hormuz decision is deepening tensions with the US. Discover Tehran’s conditions for reopening the waterway and the risks to global energy supplies.

Iran has refused to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or resume negotiations with the United States until Washington meets its demands, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on September 20.
Iran has communicated its demands through intermediaries, including:
An end to the war on all fronts.
The release of frozen Iranian funds.
An end to the US naval blockade.
Recognition of Iran's rights and fulfilment of US commitments.
The US Central Command said it had redirected 109 commercial vessels as part of efforts to enforce its naval blockade on Iran. Enforcement reportedly resumed on July 14, affecting maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.
The restrictions have raised concerns about global oil and gas supplies, as the Strait of Hormuz is a major energy transportation route.
Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that any renewed US attack would trigger retaliation against American bases and interests across the region.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of consequences while indicating openness to talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the UN General Assembly in New York.
The standoff continues to raise concerns over regional security, global shipping and energy markets.
