Synopsis
Adani Ports shares gain as investors track strong cargo growth, port operations, transshipment activity and the latest performance of APSEZ stock.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone shares gained over 1% in afternoon trade on September 2, 2026, even as the broader market faced heavy selling pressure. The stock was trading around ₹1,666, making it one of the top Nifty 50 gainers.
The rise came after Adani Ports reported record monthly cargo volumes of 50 million metric tonnes in August, marking its highest ever monthly volume and a 19% year on year increase. Strong growth in dry cargo and container volumes supported the overall performance.

Adani Ports handled 50 MMT of cargo in August, up 19% from the same month last year. The company said growth was broad based across its domestic and international port network.
Dry cargo volumes rose 25% year on year, while container volumes increased 15% during August. For the year to date through August, Adani Ports handled 234.4 MMT of cargo, up 16% from the corresponding period last year.
Adani Ports said its container business benefited from the expansion of its transshipment platform led by Vizhinjam and Colombo. The company also reported growing volumes in liquid cargo and dry cargo, including coastal cargo.
The August performance keeps the company on track towards its longer term target of handling 1 billion metric tonnes of annual cargo by FY31. However, its rail logistics business remained weaker, with August rail volumes at 54,131 TEUs, up 6% sequentially, while year to date volumes fell 33% year on year to 2.50 lakh TEUs.
