HAL's GE F414 engine programme moves towards commercial negotiations after technical issues were resolved. Check the Tejas Mk2 connection, proposal timeline and key next steps.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has resolved technical issues related to the local production of GE Aerospace's F414 fighter jet engine, according to comments by HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K.
The company is now waiting for GE Aerospace to submit a commercial proposal, which is expected by October. The proposal could take another one or two months because of the project's size and complexity.
GE Aerospace and HAL have completed technical discussions for the proposed F414 engine co production programme. The next stage will focus on commercial terms and contract negotiations.
These discussions are expected to cover pricing, production arrangements, technology transfer and other conditions. The final agreement has not yet been signed.
The F414 engine is planned to power India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk2.
The proposed agreement includes the domestic production of 99 engines and technology transfer of around 80 percent. The exact manufacturing and technology arrangements will depend on the final contract.
Domestic F414 production could support the Tejas Mk2 programme by reducing dependence on imported engines and strengthening India's aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
The engine is also linked to India's future Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. However, production timelines will depend on commercial negotiations, approvals and contract execution.
HAL is seeking Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) clearance from the Ministry of Defence. This approval is required before the procurement process can move towards a final contract.
After GE submits its commercial proposal, HAL and GE will negotiate the remaining terms. Government approval and finalisation of the agreement will determine the next stage of the project.
HAL shares were trading at Rs 4,850 at 10:50 am on September 21, 2026, up 1.02% during the session.
The company had a market capitalisation of around Rs 3.24 lakh crore, while its stock traded at a price to earnings (P/E) ratio of 34.8.

Yes. US interest rates influence borrowing costs, business investment, technology budgets and investor valuations. Since many Indian IT companies generate a significant portion of their revenue from overseas markets, changes in US economic expectations can affect their share prices.
Weakness in US markets can raise concerns about economic growth, corporate spending and demand for technology services. This may affect investor sentiment toward Indian IT companies, although the actual impact depends on client exposure, order bookings and company performance.
The main factors may include weak global technology stocks, US interest rate uncertainty, concerns over client spending, disappointing earnings expectations, currency movements and profit booking.
